Radiocontrast-Induced Nephropathy (RCIN) Prophylaxis

bicarb 3 amps in 1 L SW (or D5W), 3 ml/kg 1 hr before then 1 ml/kg per hr x 6h
NAC 150 mg/kg 1hr before then 50 mg/kg over 4 hr

Note: Both bicarb and NAC have bolus doses. BUT, the maintenance doses as specified above are specified differently: the bicarb dose is per hour for 6 hours while the NAC dose as given is a total dose to be run over 4 hours.

 

bicarb = Sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3)
NAC = n-acetylcysteine
